Appleseed Shoot

Hey Gang:

I just went to my second Appleseed weekend and had blast. No pun intended, but it works. If you ever wanted to learn to shoot your rifle long distances( up to 400 yards) and be accurate this is a good inexpensive way to learn.

RWVA, Revolutionary War Veterens Association is the sponsor and they make it very easy for kids and women to participate also.

Check them out at www.appleseedinfo.org

My wife and I went to one this weekend as well. We both made rifleman and riflewoman. I also had the chance to bring out the M1A for the long range stuff.

It was her 2nd AS and my 3rd. We plan to attend more. We both had a blast!

Wow. That is great. The highest I scored was 176. I am hoping next time I go in October in Iowa I get my rifleman. I am using a Ruger 10/22 with peep sight.

Congratulations:

+1 for Appleseed. It's the best basic marksmanship training one can get, and at a fraction of the price of other programs.

BTW, the history presentation alone is worth the price of admission, plus there's the fact that you can rub elbows with a crowd that thinks like GIM, but actually does something about it...

Thanks! I shot a 227 and my wife sot a 222 and a 218. She is a more consistent shot than I am. Plus she is tough as nails. I have to brag that she withstood the hot 30-06 brass on the small of her back. The fellow next to her was shooting a M1.

You know the AS motto...persistence! Are you using stock sights or Tech sights? If you are using stock sights, get the AR15 type 10/22 from Tech Sights.

They make all the difference. We also used better ammo this time for our 10/22s. We used Wolf Match. It is kind of pricey at $47 for 500 rounds but it works well.

Good Luck!

The distance was 25 yards with simulated target sizes for up to 400 yards.

The facility has a 300 yard range that is being built and might be ready for the October shoot.

Thanks for the tip on the better ammo. I just buy the 22 xperts for 15.00 for 500 but I did notice that the loads seemed to fluctuate. Maybe that is why I had a few "flyers". I do use the Tech Sight Peep sight and love it. I am going to prctice with the AQTs before the next shoot and try to get some tight grouping.

For those who live in Florida, there is a shoot in St. Augustine this October.

I have been to their shoots in the past and it is hands down the best program for rifle marksmanship skills at the price they charge.

Re: Appleseed Shoot

You can shoot 25M reduced, or some (most?) appleseeds have full Known Distance ranges out to 400. Obviously you'll need something more potent than a 22. I've always used full on rifles (Garands and M14s), but it's nice to drop back to a 22 on the 25M range after putting (literally) 400 rounds of 30 cal downrange.

The marksmanship program is basically military highpower, 100m standing slow, 200m seated fast w/mag change, 300m prone fast w/mag change, and 400m prone slow. All are against man sized sillouettes, or reduced versions thereof.

Ready on the left?
Ready on the right?
Ready on the firing line?

With one magazine, 10 rounds, LOAD!
